Adaptive Recreation & Sports

VAIL Harrisonburg Cardinals

VAIL is pleased to announce the merger of the Harrisonburg Cardinals wheelchair basketball team into VAIL’s new adaptive sports program! The Cardinals return from hiatus on June 2, 2022, for their first practice in two years.

The team offers an opportunity in the area with permanent lower limb disabilities to have a competitive, recreational outlet. The team consists of individuals from the Harrisonburg, Rockingham, Augusta, Staunton, and Waynesboro areas. This program is a joint effort between VAIL and the Mid-Atlantic Wheelchair Athletic Association.

Outdoor Adaptive Recreation (OAR)

Outdoor Adaptive Recreation (OAR) is VAIL’s new program that focuses on getting individuals with mobility impairments in the Lexington/Rockbridge area outside and enjoying nature, exercising, and socializing together. OAR coordinates accessible outdoor adventures including bird watching, hiking and strolling, wildlife photography, handcycling, kayaking, and so much more!

OAR events will be held on the 3rd Thursday of every month, with many events offering snacks, coordination of transportation when possible, and always providing a good time! Please contact Terri Bsullak, OAR volunteer coordinator at tbsullak@yahoo.com or 540-460-3473 to sign up or for more information.
